Oscar-Worthy Formal Wear

Hi Readers!

I know it’s been quite some time since I posted an outfit, but I guess that is how Med school goes. Anyway, I’m very excited because today is officially the Oscars and I thought it would be the perfect time to show you a look I recently wore to my Medical School Ball two weekends ago because I’m completely in love with this dress! It’s not something I would normally have picked for myself, but I’m so glad I did! I ended up winning a “Best Dressed” award at the event, so I was glad I wore this very special dress for our very own Red Carpet event.  I know that I can’t wait to see who of my favorite celebrities is having fun with the fashion they chose for this evening. Who do you think is going to end up on the “Best Dressed” awards this year on the Oscar’s Red Carpet? How do you think this look holds up?

Faux Fur and Sequins: NYE 2014

Happy 2015!

I hope you have all had a great kickoff to the new year so far! I had a great night with family and friends while braving freezing temperatures in downtown Cleveland to see fireworks, but it was well worth it! Prior to going outside bundled up like the little boy from A Christmas Story, I wore a sparkly NYE-appropriate dress. It is one that I’ve had for many years and still love every time I get a chance to sparkle. I also had an excuse to wear faux fur in a real-life situation, so of course I had to take it! I think NYE is the only time it’s probably socially acceptable to wear both a sequined dress AND sequined shoes at the same time! What do you think of my all-black-everything, furry, sparkly ensemble???

PS: sorry for the funky photo quality, I got in a fight with my camera’s settings and this was the best shots of my outfit I could get. I will try to have better quality for my next post for sure!

Holiday Outfit Ideas 3, 4, 5, and 6!!!

Hi friends!

Since tomorrow is Christmas Eve, I thought that I would share a few outfits (yes, I’m dumping in more than one outfit into this post since I’m running out of time!) so you all can get a little holiday oufit inspo. Two are pretty traditional, red and green, one is a little more casual and cozy, and the fourth one is a little more pinup-inspired. I hope these help you plan your outfits and that you have a VERY Merry Christmas!!!

Holiday Outfit Idea #2: Ugly Sweater, Killer Heels

Hi Friends!

Last night, my classmates and I celebrated the end of our first semester in medical school with a traditional Ugly Christmas Sweater party. I just so happened to find these beautiful heels while doing some Christmas shopping yesterday afternoon and decided that after a long, tortuous semester, I was going to treat myself to these beauties from my local TJMaxx. So naturally, I paired them with this stunning, festive sweater vest, and dark wash skinnies. I also got a little creative and took two of the smallest ornaments off of my tree and wore them as earrings. Yes it’s weird, but I got so many compliments on them I lost track of counting!!! Between the ornaments-as-earrings and my gorgeous shoes, I felt a little less “ugly sweater” and a little bit more “cute-but-excessively-festive”. What do you think of my Ugly Sweater ensemble? What accessories would you add to your tacky sweater to make your outift not so frumpy?

Holiday Outfit Idea #1

Hi friends!

I know it’s been quite some time since I’ve posted, but blogging definitely got set aside due to medical school exams. However, I really wanted to share this post because I think it is a good holiday-appropriate outfit and Christmas is just around the corner! I am going to try and post as many holiday-inspired outfits I can before Christmas arrives. So this is just the first of a few to help you style yourself this holiday season. What I love about it is that it’s a holiday look without being bright red or green. Not to mention that these joggers are stretchy enough to be comfortable all day/night, and fitted enough to still be flattering after you gorge on a dozen Christmas cookies. (No judgement; I may have done that already once or twice this year…) What do you think of this holiday-inspired look?

Bridesmaid-To-Be October Style Challenge with Weddington Way

Hi Readers!

Being as October is one of the largest wedding months of the year, and that I am going to be a bridesmaid in my best friend’s wedding next summer, I thought it would be super fun to participate in an opportunity for WeddingtonWay.com! They asked me to complete a head-to-toe look that I would style for my best friend’s wedding as if I was a Maid of Honor/stylist. Knowing her taste and infusing a little bit of my style into it, this is the look I came up with: a neutral spin on classic wedding attire with a gown that is flattering to many figures while still being simple and flowy.  This is just a single example, but with all the options at Weddington Way, you really can basically get any look you want for you and your bridesmaids (Shop for bridesmaids dresses here!) on your big day! I will also be linking to other blogs super soon so you can also get ideas from other bloggers! What do you all think of my creation?

White Coat Wardrobe: LBD and Leopard Pumps

Hey all!

Sorry I have been absent for so long, but as you can imagine, medical school is keeping me a bit busy. Yesterday I was honored to be officially given my personal white coat in a ceremony that has been a tradition in medical schools for over 100 years! So, I guess you could say that it was a pretty big deal and I was very excited.  It has been a long road to this point so I wanted to make sure I looked not only professional, but stayed true to my style with the ensemble I chose for my special day. In Ohio we don’t have this store, but I’ve recently become a big fan of Altar’d State, which has a location near my school here in Alabama. I got this adorable dress less than 2 days before I needed it and also just so happened to find the perfect leopard print pump at Dillard’s. Talk about luck! What do you think about my outfit: is it purrfect? (yes I know that was ridiculously cheesy lol)

How-To: Business Casual

Hi friends!

Recently I posted an outfit that I referred to as being “business casual” but when I got to thinking a little more about that term, I realized there is a lot of room for interpretation of that description. So, I decided to compile a list of rules to follow to guarantee you are on the more business end of “business casual” and not the other way around. I have a list for both men and women, so male friends rejoice! I am finally including you!!! I also am including a few examples of outfits I consider business casual after the lists. Hope this is helpful!!!

  1. Skirts and dresses should be no more than an inch above the knee (with a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of wiggle room).
  2. Trousers or cigarette pants that are hemmed well and don’t appear too much like skinny colored denim.
  3. Tops have a lot of wiggle room but never, ever wear anything too low cut or with a keyhole too near to the bosom.
  4. No casual shoes; no shoes with rhinestones or glitter; if you wear it “out”, save it for after 5pm. I do disagree with the peep-toe rule that tells you to avoid them, however. I think they are acceptable in many business casual settings.
  5. Cardigans and blazers can take almost any dress or top and make it more business in a split second.
  6. If you would be comfortable having your CEO or President calling you into a meeting, then it is probably acceptable. If not, skip it!
  7. Dress for the position you want to become, not the one you are currently in. This goes for professional school students, like myself; you are not just a student, you are a professional.

  1. Always wear a dress/work shoe, no matter what is happening with the rest of the outfit.
  2. Any neutral-colored work pant is acceptable, unless you are considering those khaki cargo pants. Those are too casual.
  3. Ties are more formal than most business casual settings require, so do not feel obligated. Jackets without a tie are ok!
  4. Patterned button-downs are a great way to add some flair, so are vests, pull-over sweaters, cufflinks, tie clips, watches, suspenders, and colored/patterned socks.
  5. Just remember to leave that neon lime green button down at home; next to that paisley shirt.
  6. Polo shirts are fine as long as they do not have large logos on the chest.
  7. If you would be comfortable having your CEO or President calling you into a meeting, then it is probably acceptable. If not, skip it!
  8. Dress for the position you want to become, not the one you are currently in. This goes for professional school students, like myself; you are not just a student, you are a professional.

Feel Good Pop and Retro Fashion

Hi Friends!

Normally Sunday night means I have a new outfit post, but I got a little behind with pics this week since I just finished my first week of medical school. So instead, I’m going to leave you with a music video that you may or may not already know about. I am in love with everything about this from the awesomely catchy tune, the body-positive lyrics, and the adorable retro pastel fashion! Give it a watch and let me know if you love it as much as I do!
